Star Wars The Force Unleashed

A short while ago in a galaxy not too far away on a little rock called Earth a much hyped and highly publicised game was released......

Star Wars The Force Unleashed (X-Box 360 Version)

Star Wars The Force Unleashed attempts to bridge the gap in the original Star Wars Trilogy and the new trilogy and as such is set between the events of episode III and episode IV.

Story:

The Story is well scripted, beautifully crafted   and worthy of the title multimedia project and Episode 3.5, the Star Wars The Force Unleashed story unfolds through a variety of cinematic cut scenes, well placed set pieces; and most importantly gameplay.

As the game unfolds the apprentice becomes stronger and becomes more aware of his destiny and true to the Star Wars trend a subtle love story unfolds, with a climatic ending aboard The Death Star.

There are two known endings, more endings are rumoured to exist.

Score: 25/25

Graphics:

In full HD (1080 progressive/P) Force Unleashed is eye candy, one only has to experience the opening of Lord Vader marching through Kashyyk to see the time and effort that has gone into this game; in true Vader style he chokes his commander and then game is unleashed, the game uses the new Havok engine that was first seen in Rockstar’s GTA 4, this adds amazing realism to the graphics as Vader marches through Kashyyk; the player gets the feel of being a Sith lord.

The Hanger level is a good place to stop and admire the scenery as the Tie fighters fly pass, they are also destructible; the backgrounds are also stunningly rendered and seem very similar to the Second trilogy’s attention to detail, feel and towards the ending of the game the look and feel shifts into the first trilogy’s feeling.

Score: 25/25

Gameplay:

The controls coupled with the Havok engine work well in giving the player the feeling of actually being the apprentice.

The gameplay in The Force Unleashed revolves around killing everything on sight mainly using the apprentice’s force powers such as force lightning: very useful against droids, force push: used to open doors and the trusty light sabre, to reflect bolts that get fired at him.

The main gripe with The Force Unleashed is that all the levels then to be the same not in design but in gameplay; such as kill a load of droids and clones, hunt for a way out kill boss; FMV and repeat until the end of the game.

Once the game is finished their is much replay value if  gamer wants to unlock all the robes, force powers, combos, light sabre crystals and combos; as well as the hard mode and alternative ending a replay is in need, to achieve that goal.

20/25

Xbox Live content:

Not much Content available: - two themes for 150 credits each and 2 picture packs.

Additionally there are a lot of gamer achievements to obtain in the force unleashed to raise the player’s Gamer Score and they are not all easy to achieve.

10/25

Overall Score: 80

Overall a very good game if a Star Wars fan this game is an essential part of the force, with a great plot, better graphics, let down by the  repetitiveness of its levels.

If not a Star wars fan or serious gamer this game should at least be considered as a rental title as the games plot can easily be completed in a day or two.
